Sausalito’s stretch of waterfront is a gamble: you can land a table with a skyline view and a menu that plays it safe, or you can find a spot where the music’s loud, the vegan tacos outshine the carne asada, and the bartender remembers your order. I’ve done both, often in the same week, and that’s the fun of it.

This list runs from a celiac-safe tequileria where the plates look like paintings to a hillside bar that makes you earn your oysters with a white-knuckle drive. One place even sneaks in a cioppino that’ll make you forget you came for Mexican food.

Skip the tourist traps and start here.

Vegan options absolutely delicious
Friendly staff, funky atmosphere
Great stop for drinks
Music enhances the experience

I walked into Salsalito Taco Shop expecting a quick bite, but the music and the funky decor talked me into staying for a drink. The staff greeted me like a regular, which is a nice trick for a first-timer. I ordered something vegan off the menu, and honestly, it stole the show. Rich, spiced, and satisfying, it didn't feel like a compromise at all. The whole place hums with a low-key party energy, and the tunes are loud enough to feel but quiet enough to talk over. It's a great stop for a casual meal or a margarita. I left smiling. That counts for a lot.

Highlights
Fully gluten-free, celiac-safe dining
Prime waterfront Sausalito location
Lively bar and game atmosphere
Distinctive modernized plate presentation

Copita Tequileria y Comida sits right on the water, and the view alone would be enough to justify the trip. But the real draw for me was the fully gluten-free kitchen, which is a rare thing and a genuine relief if you have celiac disease. I ordered from a menu that felt modern, with plates arranged like little pieces of art, colorful and clean. The bar area was lively, full of people playing games and laughing, so the whole room had a party buzz. My food came out fast, and every bite tasted intentional. You get the bay on one side and a good time on the other. Hard to beat that combination.

Highlights
Unforgettable cioppino and fresh seafood
Breathtaking waterfront dining views
Attentive, affable service staff
Peaceful weekday lunch spot

Scoma's of Sausalito is technically a seafood house, but I'm including it here because their cioppino is the kind of thing you dream about after a long week. I stopped in on a quiet weekday for lunch, and the waterfront dining room felt almost serene, which is a luxury in this town. The staff were attentive without hovering, and they actually seemed happy to be there. The cioppino arrived steaming, loaded with fresh fish and a broth that begged for bread. I sat there longer than I planned, watching the water and eating slowly. It wasn't a typical Mexican meal, but it was an unforgettable plate. Sometimes you follow the flavor, not the label.

Highlights
Worth the scary drive
Breathtaking bay and city views
Wings and oysters impress
Packed but worth the wait
Perfect waterfront sunset energy

Getting to Barrel House Tavern requires a drive that will test your nerves if you're not used to hills, but I promise the payoff is real. The view of the bay and the city skyline is the kind of thing that makes you forget your car is parked on an incline. The place was packed, and we waited a while, but the wings and the oysters made every minute worthwhile. The wings had a nice char, and the oysters tasted like the ocean, briny and cold. As the sun started dropping, the whole bar glowed golden, and everyone seemed to be in on the same good mood. It's crowded, it's loud, and it works. I'd wait again.

Cozy, welcoming morning atmosphere
Generous portions, beautifully presented

Anchorage 5 is my go-to when I need breakfast to fix a rough morning, and it has never let me down. The staff greet you like they mean it, and the cozy dining room feels like a warm blanket. I ordered the usual, and the plate came out generous, colorful, and arranged with real care, which is rare for a morning meal. The flavors were fresh, bright, and exactly what I wanted. I noticed other tables getting the same level of attention, so it's not a fluke. It's a quiet kind of place, but one that makes you feel at home. I'm already planning my next visit. Simple as that.
